Game Programmer

This is one of the highest paid jobs in the game industry -- both from the entry level and at the top. Game Programmers create the "code" which is compiled together to become the video or computer game.

Game progammers who create mega hit games can become millionaires. One example is the programmer behind the Doom & Quake games, John Carmack.

Early on he showed his level of skill when he become the first person to be able to emulate Super Mario on the PC. Back in those days people used their PCs to work on spreadsheets -- not play video games.

He went on to program one of the very first FPS (first person shooter) games -- Wolfenstein 3D. After that came the original Doom -- a game that completely revolutionized the computer game world.

Today John Carmack is still pumping out super-realistic 3D games. His newest game, Doom 3, uses advanced 3D lighting techniques to create an ultra-realistic gaming experience.

Becoming a game progammer usually requires a degree in computer science. If you are good at math then its possible that you can become a self taught programmer (many of the best never made it through college, just ask Bill Gates.)

The game industry is growing rapidly. Great companies are always looking for skilled programmers to push technology to the limits!
